The ‘Littlehampton’s Lobsters’ project explored the work and influence of internationally renowned Bauhaus artist Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, who was inspired by Littlehampton’s blooming lobster fishing industry and stunning historic boatyards during his visit to the town in the 1930s. During his two year stay he created a unique aquatic film, capturing the fascinating natural habitat of the local lobsters, and many of Littlehampton's old fishermen families.
Community members were encouraged to contribute their personal archives, memories and local knowledge to uncover the amazing story of this legendary artist's journey around Littlehampton.
Discovery trails, art workshops, photographic conservation classes and the creation of two new explorative films has led to a deeper understanding of the man and his work, as well as building civic pride in the town and it's exciting heritage.
